Udaipur is a city and municipal corporation in Udaipur district of the state of Rajasthan, India. It is the administrative headquarter of Udaipur district. It is the historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar in the former Rajputana Agency. It was founded in 1559 by Udai Singh II of the Sisodia clan of Rajputs, when he shifted his capital from the city of Chittorgarh to Udaipur after Chittorgarh was besieged by Akbar. It remained as the capital city till 1818 when it became a British princely state, and thereafter the Mewar province became a part of Rajasthan when India gained independence in 1947.

Located around the green hills of Aravallis, Udaipur is a charming city, known for its lavish royal residences, picturesque lakes, and magnificent temples. The famous Lake Palace located in the middle of Lake Pichola is a major tourist attraction. The City Palace is considered to be the largest royal complex in the state. Its sprawling complex has numerous palaces, stunning courtyards with artistic gardens, and ornate peacock mosaics. Jagdish Temple, Jagmandir, Vintage Car Museum, and the beautiful man-made lake, Fateh Sagar Lake are a few other popular attractions of the city. Besides lakes and royal buildings, the city is also popular for its bustling streets with shops selling a variety of authentic Rajasthani products.

All the museums in Udaipur are well maintained and charges minimal fees to explore the vast collections of antiques.
